Follow the instructions on this page to install Windows updates on your CCAD-issued PC.
If you are off campus, you first need to connect to the CCAD VPN. |
Here is a suggested timeline for installing updates on your computer:
|
When your computer is connected to CCAD’s network, you will see a prompt to install updates which you can delay for up to 2 days. After that, updates will install on their own.
Click the Windows menu at the bottom left of your screen and type “updates.” Click Check for Updates.
The Settings window will open, and your computer will check for available updates. Click the Install Now button to start installation.
You can minimize this window and continue to work while updates install.
When ready, the Restart Now button will become available on the Settings window. Save any open work and click Restart Now to restart your computer and finish the updates. This could take up to half an hour.
Log back into your computer. Open the Windows menu at the bottom left of your screen and type “updates.” Click Check for Updates.
If it has been a long time since updates were installed, a second round of updates may be needed! |
If you see a green checkmark with the message You’re up to date, you’re all done.
If you see that more updates are available, click Install Now to start the installation.
After updating, some computers have had an issue with audio not working. If your sound stops working after installing updates, open the Windows menu and type “Software.” Open Software Center and click install next to Realtek HD Audio Drivers. After a restart, your sound should work again.
