Gmail Mobile App

You can set up your CCAD email on your mobile phone or tablet.

Why can’t I use Apple Mail, Outlook, or other mail clients?

What we’re really doing is disabling access to your email using IMAP and POP protocols. IMAP and POP allow third-party apps to send and receive email on behalf of your account, but they also increase the risk of data to be leaked, deleted, and transferred out of your account. This also lets us block access to your email/calendar more efficiently if your mobile device is lost or stolen.

Already using the Gmail App for another email account? Skip down to the “How to add your CCAD account if you’re already using the Gmail app” section.

Features of the Gmail App

If you’re used to another mail app, we understand that change can be difficult. However, we think you’ll enjoy some of the features that Gmail has to offer!

  • Instant updates: On the iPhone Mail app, your CCAD emails do not appear instantly because they have to wait for the Mail app to refresh. Now, your emails will show up right away.

  • Priority Inbox: If you already use this Gmail feature on your computer, now you will be able to also use it on your phone to filter your important and unread emails, your starred emails, etc.

  • Archives and search: On the iPhone Mail app, it’s difficult to search for emails that you have archived. With the Gmail app, you can always find all of your emails when you need them. (Reminder, archived mail appears in the All Mail folder.)

  • Advanced functions: Tap the down arrow in any email and you’ll see many familiar options. Most notably, you can report an email for spam (unavailable in Mail) or mark it as unread (have to be in the main inbox, and requires a few clicks in Mail). You can also easily add a label from there as well, and even print if you need to.

  • Undo actions: Sometimes our fingers slip and delete or archive a mail when we didn’t intend to do that. This is particularly bothersome in two-way sync environments. But with the Gmail app you can simply click Undo and get it all back intact.

  • Send mail as: When you load the Gmail app, you can send mail under any of your authorized Gmail addresses.

Using Gmail on an Android?

  • Advanced email formatting commands: Long-press when writing an email, and you can open rich formatting options: bold, italicize, underline, change color, etc.

  • Custom swipe gestures: Click the menu icon in the top left of your screen, then open Settings > General Settings > Swipe Actions. From here, you can choose what action you want Gmail to take when you swipe left or right on an email – easily delete, categorize, or snooze emails in your inbox.

  • Undo: Click the menu icon in the top left of your screen, then open Settings > General Settings > Action Confirmations. This lets you turn on the option for Gmail to prompt you to confirm before deleting, archiving, or sending an email.

  • Set Vacation Responders from your phone: Click the menu icon in the top left of your screen, then open Settings > [your CCAD email] > Vacation Responder. You can now set and/or create a new out of office notice from your phone.

  • Selective notifications: Click the menu icon in the top left of your screen, then open Settings > [your CCAD email] > Notifications. From here, you can choose to only receive notifications for “High priority” emails, or set up your own filters to choose what you want to receive notifications for.
