Course Reuse (formerly Course Import)

You can import some or all of the content from a prior course without having to recreate everything from scratch using the Course Reuse function.

You can only import content from courses for which you have the Teacher role. If you need to import content from another course, you must get approval from your department Chair and ask them to reach out to the Instructional Technologist & Designer.

Step-by-step instructions

Go to your main course page, click More at the top select Course Reuse.

On the Find a course page, choose the course you want to import content from. If you have a lot of courses, you can use the Search box to narrow the results. Once selected, click the Continue button. You can only import content from one course at a time.

Deselect boxes to choose what you want to import from the course. If you want to import everything, click Jump to final step to start the import right away. If you want to selectively import content, click Next.

If importing Quizzes, you must check Include question bank.

If you clicked Jump to final step, you’re done! If you clicked Next, use the checkboxes to select which sections and specific content you want to import. In this example, I am only importing the CCAD Moodle section from the Technology Boot Camp course.

On the Confirmation screen, double-check the content to import and then scroll to the bottom and click Perform import.

You will see a progress bar as the import is processed. It may take some time, the more content you choose to import will affect how much long it will take to complete. After if finishes, you’ll see the screen below. Click Continue to go back to your course page.

Your imported content should now appear in your course.

Didn’t get it right the first time?

That’s okay. Sometimes Import takes a couple attempts to get it just right.

  • If your course is just missing content, you can use Import again to selectively add it to the course.

  • If the wrong content was imported into the course, you’ll need to click the Edit drop down next to each item and delete it.
