Cisco Jabber
Cisco Jabber is an application installed on your CCAD-issued Mac or Windows laptop to manage your desk phone and voicemail.
Sign In
Launch Cisco Jabber. Enter your CCAD email and click Continue. Enter your password and click Sign in.
If you wish, you may select “Sign me in when Jabber starts” to save your Username and Password and auto-sign in when opening Jabber.

5. Phone Control or Soft Phone selection (i.e. forwarding). Enter the entire phone number including the area code which you wish to forward to. If it does not work, try 8+1+area code+phone number.
Note: Call forwarding will only work while connected to VPN.
Presence Status
Jabber displays your Presence Status next to your name. When you first log in the color icon will be green and your status set to “Available.”
To change your presence status, click the arrow next to your status and select one of the status options:
Green for Available
Yellow for Away
Red for Do Not Disturb.
Your status will change automatically to “Away” when you lock your computer or there has been no activity for 15 minutes.
Your status will automatically change to “In a Meeting” when you join a meeting.
You can also create your own custom Presence Status to provide more meaningful information to your colleagues.
In the status menu, select the type of status you wish to create: Available, Away, or Do Not Disturb.
Once the presence is set, click on the default name. This will blank the default status message and allow you to type your own.
Press enter on your keyboard to set the status
NOTE: Be aware that anything you type as your custom status will be visible to everyone in the company.
Adding Contacts
Add Contacts to view their Presence Status.
From the Search and Dial bar, type the contacts name to search your directory, Recents and existing Contacts
Jabber uses a predictive search, so as you type, search results will appear and narrow as you continue typing
To add the contact, select the plus sign or right-click on the contact name to view contact options
When you select Add Contact, a dialog box will appear asking what Contact Group you wish to add the new contact to
Under Add to: select an existing group or select New Group
Enter a name for the group, then click Create
Click Add to add the contact to the selected Contact Group
Additionally, contacts could be added via the Settings > File > New menus
Interacting with Contacts
Launch an IM session by double clicking a colleague or selecting the voice bubble icon from your contact list. This opens the interaction window.
To send a message, type in the Text Entry field, then press Enter.
From the chat window, you may interact in additional ways.
Alternatively, from your contact list, right-click a contact to view additional options to interact, then select your preferred method of contact.
Answering a call
Incoming calls will display a notification on your screen. You may choose to Chat Reply (if the contact is chat-capable), Answer, or send the call to your voicemail by clicking Decline.
Video Calls
When video is available, calls may disable video by default. Video can be enabled for all calls by default via the Settings menu.
Place a Call
From the Search and Dial bar, type the phone number or search for a contact.
Dial the number exactly how you would dial it from your desk phone.
Press Enter or select phone icon to place the call
Search for contact or from your contact list select the phone icon to choose a number to dial
Call Log
The Recents tab provides a listing of all calls you have made, received, or missed.
Use the View filter at the top left of the tab to change the date range of the calls displayed.
Use the Type filter at the top right of the tab to change the type of calls displayed:
Placed Call
Received Call
Missed Call
Voice Messages
The Jabber client provides your Voice Messages in a handy interactive list
When you receive a voice message, you will see indication on the tab, and new voice messages will be displayed in bold.
Select the Play button on the message to listen to the voicemail
If the message is from a colleague, you will be able to view the presence information for that person from this window.
Right click on a message to Call Back, Chat, Mark as Read or Unread, or Delete the message.
Windows vs Mac
If you are using a Mac, you will need to be connected to VPN if using Jabber from off campus. Learn how to do so here.
Windows users do not need to do this.
