Many of us need to use our personal cell phones for work. In light of the pandemic we’ve seen more people need to work remotely and use video conferencing apps on their phones and tablets. If you have a limited data plan and are concerned about approaching your plan’s limit, use the instructions below to help control data usage on your mobile devices.

Limit data use on an iPhone or iPad

You may have recently installed new apps for remote work such as Microsoft Teams and noticed your data usage increase. You might want to limit the use of this app to WiFi. To set whether cellular data is used for apps and services:

  • Go to Settings  > Cellular, then turn Cellular Data on or off for any app that can use cellular data.

  • If a setting is off, iPhone uses only WiFi for that service.
