How do I get help and ask technology questions?
The IT Help Desk is ready and willing to help. If you have any questions or are experiencing issues with technology, contact us by emailing helpdesk@ccad.edu, call 614.222.6174, or stop by Kinney Hall room 220. Click here for more information about Help Desk hours and services.
The Help Desk can provide troubleshooting and repair for CCAD owned computers and technology. We are limited in the help we can provide with personally owned computer equipment, but we can help troubleshoot software issues and advise with next steps such as reaching out to a repair fulfillment center. We will not be able to help with reinstalling the operating system or providing in- or out-of-warranty repair services for personally owned systems.
Many issues people have with their personal computers are the result of spyware and adware software, collectively called malware that is often installed without the knowledge or consent of the computer owner by visiting suspicious websites or by downloading dubious programs. Malware may make your computer run slower and may even keep your computer from working on the network. If you think you have malware on your computer, the Help Desk can assist you with detection and removal.
CCAD account and first time log in
Every faculty and staff member receives a CCAD account that gets you access to systems such as email, Moodle, Self Service, WiFi networks and computers on campus.
Use of your CCAD account, email, and CCAD computers and networks must comply with our Appropriate Use Policy
To log in for the first time, go to mail.ccad.edu and log in using your CCAD email address and initial password, which are emailed to the address that Human Resources has on file after your onboarding paperwork has been completed. If you believe you should have received your initial login information and have not, reach out to HumanResources@ccad.edu.
CCAD email address
Your address consists of your first initial and last name, possibly followed by a period and a number, followed by @ccad.edu. Your email is not case-sensitive. Examples:
jfaculty@ccad.edu
jfaculty.1@ccad.edu
CCAD username
Some systems are accessed with your username rather than your full email address, which is everything before the '@' sign in your email. Your username is not case-sensitive. Examples:
jfaculty
jfaculty.1
After entering your initial password successfully, you will be prompted to change your password. Use these guidelines to create a secure and memorable passphrase. After that, you’ll be prompted to set up Two-Factor Authentication, and provide account recovery information such as a phone number and a personal email address so you can unlock your account or reset your passphrase if you forget it.
Then, you’ll be taken to your CCAD email.
CCAD Email
CCAD email is built on Gmail, which offers powerful features to search, label, filter, and prioritize mail. It also includes Google Calendar, which makes it easy to schedule meetings with colleagues and students, and access shared calendars.
Use of third party email apps such as Apple Mail, Android Mail and Outlook are not allowed. You must access your CCAD email on the web at mail.ccad.edu on desktop or laptop computers, and using the Gmail app on your mobile device. Click here to learn about using the Gmail mobile app.
You may not set up automatic forwarding from your CCAD email to another account.
Access Google Calendar by clicking the all apps button at the top right of Gmail, or by going to calendar.ccad.edu.
Network connectivity
CCAD has WiFi networks in every building for your laptop and mobile devices to get Internet access. Here are a few of the networks and their purpose:
ARTNET / ARTNET1 - This network is for all current students, faculty and staff. Connect using your CCAD username and passphrase.
GUESTNET / GUESTNET1 - This is the network for campus guests. Contact the IT Help Desk if you need the guest WiFi password.
EVENTNET / EVENTNET1 - This network is for large campus events. ARTNET and ARTNET1 will still be available on campus while these events are happening. The EVENTNET password is shared with guests when they register for the event.
Paycor
All employees have access to Paycor which provides a summary of your employee profile, time off balances, address on file, and other HR information. For questions and help registering your account, reach out to our Human Resources department at HumanResources@ccad.edu.
Academic technology
Look for regular email updates from Director of Applications & User Services Eileen Galvin about upcoming changes and new services. You can also browse the articles on the lefthand navigation of this help site to find a variety of topics on academic technology at CCAD.
Classroom A/V Systems
Classrooms on campus are equipped with:
A projector or flat panel display
A podium computer system and an auxiliary HDMI cable for your laptop
A sound system
Some rooms also have a BluRay player
Please do not attempt to move or unplug podiums, projectors, flat panel displays, or audio systems. If you are experiencing issues with a classroom A/V system, please report it right away to the IT Help Desk at helpdesk@ccad.edu. If your issue is urgent during normal business hours, try calling 614.222.6174 first.
If you have questions about the technology in your classroom, reach out to Instructional Technologist & Designer Danielle “Marcy” Dickson at ddickson@ccad.edu.
Faculty Technology Toolkit
CCAD uses many different tools and systems for you to set up in-person, hybrid, and online classes. Click here for a full description of our supported tools, what they are used for, and how to access them. You do not need to employ all of these tools for a successful, engaging class experience, but the Big 3 - CCAD Moodle, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Teams - are the best place to start.
CCAD Moodle
Moodle is CCAD’s Learning Management System (LMS), and all faculty members and students have access to Moodle for course instruction purposes. Reach out to Instructional Technologist and Designer Danielle “Marcy” Dickson at ddickson@ccad.edu for questions or consultation regarding course structure and design. Moodle can be accessed from the CCAD website, ccad.edu or directly at moodle.ccad.edu.
Click here for Moodle documentation and instructions on our help site.
Click here for Moodle video tutorials to get you started setting up your class.
Google Workspace
Along with Gmail and Google Calendar, your CCAD Google account also gets you access to a powerful suite of Gmail apps, which you can access by clicking the all apps button at the top right of Gmail. CCAD accounts have access to full Google Workspace for Education Plus features.
Google Drive - Create and share Docs, Sheets, and Slides and simultaneously edit them with others. You can access your CCAD Google Drive directly at drive.ccad.edu.
Google Meet - Videoconferencing for classes, meetings, and office hours that integrates directly with your Google Calendar.
Google Groups - Create contact groups to host conversations and easily track group correspondence.
YouTube
And more!
Microsoft Teams
Microsoft Teams is CCAD’s videoconferencing platform of choice for online classes and meetings, and work chat. Create a Team to organize work with specific groups of people to share files and host virtual meetings with a full set of features such as Q&A, polling, Breakout Rooms, and chat.
If using a CCAD-issued laptop, your computer will already have Teams installed and you can log in using your CCAD email address and passphrase.
On personal computers, click here to download and install Teams.
Training
Trainings to use academic software and systems in the Faculty Technology Toolkit are offered at various times throughout the school year. Look for updates about training from Instructional Technologist & Designer Danielle “Marcy” Dickson. To schedule individual or group training or consultation, email Marcy at ddickson@ccad.edu.
ID cards and building access
Your ID card is your access key to resources, activities, events and buildings across campus. You should protect your ID card in the same way you would protect a personal credit card. Accessing campus buildings and checking out books from the Library require a valid ID card.
A lost card should be reported immediately to the Safety and Security Office at campus extension 6165 or by dialing 614.222.6165 from a personal phone or from off campus.
Telephone and voicemail
Full-time faculty and staff are assigned a phone number and an associated voicemail.
Placing calls
You can place on-campus calls to faculty, staff, and campus offices simply by dialing the correct 4-digit extension number either using the WebEx soft phone application or using physical phones on campus.
To place an off-campus call dial ‘8', followed by the 7-digit number. You will not hear a second dial tone after pressing ‘8'. For long distance calls dial ‘8’ and then '1’ followed by the 3-digit area code and 7-digit number.
Voicemail
You can access your voicemail and control various functions on your phone using the WebEx softphone application installed on your CCAD computer. Click here for instructions to use WebEx.
