Attendance
The Attendance activity can be used to track and grade attendance sessions in your Moodle class. While you need to create the attendance and set up the session dates once for each class, these instructions will show you how to create them quickly and easily.
Step-by-step instructions
On your main course page, click the Green pencil button at the top left to turn on Editing Mode. Then, click + Add an activity or resource in the top section.
In the activity chooser, click Attendance.
This will create a new attendance. You probably don’t need to give the attendance a name or a description, so scroll down and click and expand the Grade settings.
Is coming to your class and being marked present worth a grade? If so, leave the Grade Type set to Point. If not, change the Grade Type to None so it doesn’t appear in the Gradebook.
Scroll to the bottom and click Save and display.
Now you have created your attendance, but there are no class sessions in it yet. Click Add session.
Change the Date to the first Monday of the semester. For example, the first day of Fall 2022 is August 22, 2022.
Scroll to Multiple sessions and click to expand the section. Check the first box, Repeat the session above as follows, check the days of the week the class meets, and change the Repeat until date to the last Friday of the semester. For example, the last day of Fall 2022 is December 9, 2022.
Click the Add button. This will show you all of the sessions that have just been created, scroll down and verify that the dates are correct.
To take attendance for a class session, just click the Play icon next to one of the sessions. You can also click the Trash icon next to days your class does not meet to remove them from your attendance.
